Each year, the Evansville area’s advertising agencies, creative departments, marketing executives, and digital communicators come together for a celebration of the region’s achievements at the American Advertising Awards. Companies, agencies, and freelancers submit their work to the competition, and a panel of independent judges review and award “ADDY” Awards to the cream of the crop in print, video, audio, digital, and integrated marketing material and campaigns.
This event is an institution for the Greater Evansville chapter of the American Advertising Federation, of which Lieberman Technologies is proud to be a member. For this year’s ceremony and banquet, however, we knew the event needed an experience that matched the impressive quality of this year’s entrants. In years past, many entries could not be showcased in their best setting because of space and technological limits. As the official “Gallery Sponsor” of the ceremony, we took the opportunity to build a two-prong solution designed to not only provide attendees the chance to view entries in their best setting, but also create a space where entries can be viewed year-round.
With the information provided from the event committee and the judges, we were able to build a responsive website that allows visitors to browse and search through all of the submitted entries to the 2015 competition. Using a custom WordPress configuration, visitors are able to view entries of all mediums and sizes. Through the efforts of our web development team, each company has a hub page that highlights all of their entries into the competition.
Because we wanted the event participants to be able to see all of the entries up close and personal, we created the responsive web design by starting with the mobile experience first. In years past, participants who wanted to view a winning entry had to get up in the middle of the presentation to do so. But with the mobile experience literally in the palms of their hands, participants did not have to leave their seat during the event. What’s more, the public can also receive that same viewing experience in the weeks and months after the Awards.
The website was exciting, but it was also only half of the solution.
This is a Raspberry Pi, a micro-computer that is the size of a credit card. After enclosing it in a custom case, our software development team was able to take our website’s slideshows and build a custom kiosk to display every entry in the event. Because the Pi has HDMI-output, we were able to devote four 32″ HDTVs to showing off the design, video, and illustration work of the area’s creative designers.
We are excited to have been able to participate in the ADDYs, and doubly excited that we won awards for both our responsive web development and our mobile app development. However, the work that the entire Evansville area is capable of deserves to be recognized, and we want to be a champion of all of the work produced in this year’s competition.
Congratulations to all of the winners and best of luck in the District Competition!
